What We Do

SoundTools manufactures cool and useful audio devices with the happiness and confidence of audio pros in mind. We know the high-pressure world of touring and festival audio, and we want to make your life easier. We want you to go into your next gig or tour knowing that your equipment is going to do exactly what you want when you want it to, and that if something goes wrong, you’ll be able to troubleshoot your problems as fast as possible. With that in mind, we create innovative tools that look great, feel good to use, and work flawlessly. We believe so strongly that SoundTools will make your life better that we have a Happy Human Warranty on all of our products.

SoundTools is a division of Rat Sound, managed by four team members in our warehouse in Camarillo, CA. We test every piece of cabling and equipment before it leaves our hands, and many SoundTools products are manufactured or finished in house.

How We Started

SoundTools is the brainchild of renowned sound engineer Dave Rat of Rat Sound. While serving as Front of House Engineer on tour with Rage Against the Machine in 1996, Dave had issues with a mic line that turned into every audio pro’s nightmare: a delayed show, communication problems between stage techs and management, and a flurry of back-and-forth calls to try to troubleshoot cables and mics. This experience led Dave to ask, “What if there was a simple way to troubleshoot bad mic lines?” After some pondering and a little trial and error, he invented the XLR Sniffer/Sender, the first remote end cable tester on the market. Since then, Dave has continued to create innovative tools that make life easier and solve the everyday problems that audio pros face.
